Conference of NATO Military Intelligence Committee in Dubrovnik
The Republic of Croatia hosted, in the period from 16 to 18 May 2012, a conference of the NATO Military Intelligence Committee – MIC. The conference is regularly held twice a year, and this spring session was conducted in Dubrovnik.
The work of the NATO Military Intelligence Committee involved heads of military intelligence organizations of NATO member countries and partner countries participating in NATO operations and the representatives of the NATO committee members, authorities, agencies and commands in the field of intelligence and security operations. The Committee is the principal advisory body to the NATO Military Committee (MC) and the North Atlantic Council (NAC) regarding intelligence issues. The Committee is also a forum for decision-making on intelligence of the common interest of all members and it participates in shaping NATO intelligence policy.
The conference was opened by address of the Croatian President Ivo Josipović. Traditionally, the host of the conference presents one topic from intelligence and security areas, and this time it was done by a guest presenter – Interior Minister and Chairman of the Council for coordination of security and intelligence agencies, Ranko Ostojić with the theme of cooperation between civilian and military intelligence in support of security segments. Official dinner was attended by the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Drago Lovrić, who welcomed the participants of the conference and stressed the importance of this committee in creating a safer future.
For the Republic of Croatia as a relatively young member of NATO, to host the conference of the NATO Military Intelligence Committee is of great importance. This is the confirmation that the Republic of Croatia as an equal partner actively participate in decision-making process for the benefit of the whole Alliance.
