Control of Transboundary Movements of Waste Workshop

As part of the twinning project “Strengthening the capacity for implementation of control of transboundary movements of waste”, a workshop “Training of environmental inspectors and other stakeholders” attended by members of the Coast Guard, has been held from 12 to 16 November 2012 in “St. Nicholas” Barracks in Split.

The workshop program is designed for environmental inspectors and representatives of key stakeholders who in their regular job encountered the problem of illegal waste transport. The program entailed theoretical part and practical check of waste shipments at sea in the port of Split.

Coast Guard as one of the important subjects in protecting the interests of the Republic of Croatia at sea has recognized this project as an opportunity to develop their capacity and capabilities in the control of transboundary movements of waste by the sea.
Along with members of the Coast Guard, the workshop was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Nature, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the State Office for Radiological and Nuclear Safety.

The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Nature in cooperation with the Croatian Chamber of Commerce. Twining project has been jointly implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Nature and the Environmental Agency of the Republic of Austria, and this workshop continues the implementation of training programs aimed at strengthening the enforcement capacity of environmental inspectors and other stakeholders involved in the control of transboundary movements of waste.
