Croatian Air Force Commander visits Aviano Air Base

Brigadier General Mato Mikić visited the Aviano Air Base, Italy on 4 June 2019, within the joint multinational exercise Astral Knight 2019, a delegation of the Croatian Air Force (HRZ) headed by the Commander, Brigadier General Mato Mikić visited the Aviano Air Base, Italy on 4 June 2019.

The Croatian Air Force has been engaged as Opposing Force (OPFOR) with MiGs-21 of the Fighter Aircraft Squadron of the 91st Air Base, which use the Barracks “Pukovnik Mirko Vukušić” as take off and landing spot.

Astral Knight 19 is anUnited Stated Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) exercise conducted in the Aviano Air Base in Italy and and partly in the territory of Croatia Slovenia and Germany from 3 – 6 June 2019.

It is an integrated air defence and anti-missile defence exercise focussed on the air and anti-missile defence of key terrain, and the training comprises a combination of flight operations and computer-assisted scenarios.

AK19 is a joint multi-national exercise engaging olving pilots, enlisted soldiers and seamen from the United States and members of the air forces of Croatia, Italy and Slovenia. THe objective of Astral Knight19 is to improve the integration of command and control, coordination and interoperability of air, land and naval capabilities and overlapping operations into an integrated air & missile defence (IAMD) enterprise.
