Croatian and American delegation visits “HSV Swift”

U.S. Ship “HSV Swift,” which is in visit to the Croatian Navy, in  the Lora port in Split, was visited on April 4 by Assistant Minister of Defence Dragan Lozančić, U.S. Ambassador to Croatia James B. Foley, U.S. Senator Mark Begich from Alaska Federal State and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ante Urlić with his closest associates.

On this occasion, the crew of the ship on behalf of the defence minister was welcomed by his Assistant Minister Dragan Lozančić. “The visit of this ship is another confirmation of the strategic partnership between the U.S. and Croatian Armed Forces”.

Senator Begich also extended his satisfaction, who, inter alia, is a member of the Armed Forces Committee of the Senate and Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee for Marine, Environment, Fisheries and Coast Guard. He stressed that the partnership relations between the U.S. and Croatia were stronger than ever, and that apart cooperation in NATO, two countries cooperate in international operations and in training. This was, as he noted, a good opportunity to see how the navies of our countries cooperate together. Senator Begich has been in the official visit to Croatia.

U.S. Ambassador Foley welcomed all the work that Croatian Navy has been doing to protect the interests at the sea, as well as in cooperation with other navies of NATO member states. He expressed satisfaction with cooperation and partnership of the U.S. and Croatian Armed Forces.

“HSV Swift” Captain Nicholas St. Jean in a media statement said the ship supported operations of the U.S. Navy. It is unique because his crew has been made up of civilian and military personnel. While in Split, they will conduct joint training with members of the Croatian Navy and Coast Guard in use of the so-called non-lethal weapons. The training will be carried out by members of the U.S. Marine Corps. U.S. Navy “HSV Swift” ship will be in Croatia until 6 April 2012.
