Croatian Armed Forces continue assisting the flood hit areas

Some 1000 members of the Croatian Armed Forces have remain in the field fighting the flood in Slavonia, assisted by one helicopter of the Croatian Air Force

and Air Defence and 90 vehicles (two water tankers, two ambulance vehicles, four machines, 13 boats, three amphibious vehicles and three mobile kitchens.  
The largest group of soldiers, some 113 of them, have been based at Posavski Podgajci – one of the most endangered places, along with Strošinci and Drenovci, where 93 soldiers are conducting the patrolling and reinforcing the embankment. The Croatian Armed Forces members are also searching the embankments from the nearby village of Štitar to the bridge in Županja, which is aerially monitored by the helicopter in the event of the need for further evacuation. Some of them have been sent to Vrbanja, Slavonski Brod, Soljani and Babina Greda.

Also, two helicopters of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence and 15 members of the Croatian Armed Forces have been sent to assist in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is also fighting devastating floods. They performed 31 flights and transported a total of 27.5 tons of different assistance items (drinking water from Sarajevo to Orašje, a power unit from Mostar to Orašje and sandbags for the temporary dam in the Orašje area).
Pursuant to the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, their assistance task will be extended to 21 May 2014 7 p.m, or to 23 May 2014 at 7.00 p.m. at the latest.

As of 20 May 2014 a total of 1023 members, one helicopter, 90 motor vehicles (2 water tankers and two ambulance vehicles), four machines, 13 boats, two amphibious vehicles and three mobile kitchens of the Croatian Armed Forces are in the field assisting the residents in the flood-stricken areas in Slavonia.
The water tankers delivered 7000 l of drinking water to Okučani yesterday, 3500 l were provided for mobile kitchens at Otok, Cerna and Gradište, which prepared 400, 350 and 500 meals respectively.
