Croatian Armed Forces deploy 698 members to fight the floods

In the period 12 – 14 September 2014 698 members of the Croatian Armed Forces were engaged in flood relief efforts in the Karlovac County (130 members), the Sisak-Moslavina (467 members ) and the Požega-Slavonia County (101 members).

As many as 164 remained in the flood-hit areas overnight from 13 September to 14 September.  
The 40 soldiers dispatched to Gornje Mekušje, Kobilić and Husje in the Karlovac County, equipped with six boats and an amphibious vehicle, have been evacuating the locals and their livestock (20 persons have been evacuated so far) and transporting 150 sandbags to the Vodostaj locality.  
Furthermore, 90 members of the Croatian Army, equipped with three motor vehicles, are out in Rakovac, filling 10 000 sandbags and building the 1300-m long embankment.  
Likewise, 467 soldiers are assisting the community in the Sisak-Moslavina County – 85 members of the Croatian Army, equipped with three motor vehicles, a bus and an ambulance van, are building the embankment and filling sandbags at Sunjsko Selišće, while 141 members, equipped with five transport vehicles, are fighting the flood in Žažina, where 60 soldiers were also  building the embankment during the night.
Overnight works were conducted as well to build and reinforce the Drenčina embankment, and a number of soldiers were assigned with embankment building and filling the sandbags in the Letovanić area.
In the flood-hit area of Pleternica in the Požega-Slavonia County 101 members of the Croatian Army, equipped with 16 motor vehicles and two boats,  are guarding the embankment and filling the sandbags.
The soldiers have been dispatched to the flood-hit areas of the three Counties pursuant to the Decision by the Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović, upon the request placed by the National Search and Rescue Directorate
