Croatian Army Celebrates CAF and Army Day

The Croatian Army Command marked the 22nd anniversary of establishment of the Croatian Armed Forces, celebrated at once as the Croatian Army and the Armed Forces Day, at its Headquarters in Karlovac on 27 May 2013.

The Commander, Maj. Gen. Dragutin Repinc presented the promoted, awarded and commended servicemen with the respective certificates. As many as 207 members of the Croatian Army have been promoted, and 82 commended at this solemn occasion.

Speaking to the Army servicemen, Maj. Gen. Repinc recalled the historic review of the then Croatian National Guard held at the “Zagreb” Football Club Stadium in Zagreb on 28 May 1991, and the members of the Croatian Armed Forces who lost their lives to the Homeland War. Maj. Gen. Repinc emphasized that the Croatian Armed Forces grew and developed defending and liberating the country, as evinced by the large-scale military and police operations of 1995 (known as the operations “Lightning” and “Storm”) liberating a major portion of the previously occupied territory, and eventually progressed toward a modern and respectable armed force, a full NATO member and a recognisable partner in safeguarding world peace and stability.
