Croatian military helicopter fights fire in the industrial waste depot in Zagreb
The Mi-171 Sh helicopter of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence’s Multi-purpose Helicopter Squadron was dispatched to the big fire site at the C.I.O.S. industrial waste depot in Jankomir in Zagreb on Monday 14 April.
Following the request for the assistance with fire fighting sent by the Croatian National Protection and Rescue DIrectorate the helicopter took off from its base in Lučko, near Zagreb. It was equipped with the specialised firefighter „Bambi Bucket“, with the capacity of two to three tons of water droppable over the fire-caught area on one helicopter pass.
The aerial assistance provided by the helicopter was essential for putting the fire under control, in view of the speed of fire spreading in the firms’s halls, aggravated by the strong wind and inaccessible terrain. The helicopter was engaged from 3.55 pm to 8.00 pm, performing 40 flights in the duration of 3.35 hours and dropping 74 tons of water.
