Croatian Military Representative to NATO presented new Strategic concept of NATO
Croatian Military Representative to NATO, Major General Drago Lovric held today, July 12, a presentation on a new Strategic concept of NATO and the new NATO command structure.
The presentation was organized to inform employees of the Ministry of Defence and the Croatian Armed Forces who address the NATO topics. NATO launched drafting of a new strategic concept due to changes in the security environment as well as the necessity of defining new military capabilities of the Alliance to successfully meet new challenges. The new strategic concept also puts emphasis on public affairs as one of the important elements to take into consideration for operations outside the NATO area of responsibility.
Along with drafting a new Strategic Concept, there was a need for a new command structure of NATO. The fundamental goal of a new structure is smaller, more efficient and more flexible NATO, which will be able to perform its basic tasks of collective defence and the fight against terrorism, but also to expand its activities into new areas such as social networks.
The lecture was attended by Deputy Chief of General Staff for Operations Admiral Zdenko Simicic, commanders of all services of the Croatian Armed Forces, director of Croatian Military Academy, chiefs of all General Staff departments and other employees of the MOD and Croatian Armed Forces.
Adoption of the new Strategic Concept of NATO is expected at NATO Summit in Lisbon in late 2010.
