Croatian Navy Deputy Commander opened Faros Marathon

Deputy Commander of the Croatian Navy, Rear  Admiral (LH) Tihomir Erceg opened on Saturday, August 28, in the Stari Grad on Hvar Island, the 35th Croatian international championship in the long distance swimming – “Faros Marathon”

, held under the auspices of the Croatian President, Ivo Josipovic. Rear Admiral Erceg, envoy of the President, when opening the international championship of long distance swimming, commended the organizers and other participants of the championship who each year include in the organization of this major sporting and tourist event. “This combination of top sport, enthusiasm, volunteerism and support of residents of Old Town can not be found anywhere in the world and this is what one should strive to achieve in all other sports and at all other places”, said Rear Admiral Erceg.
Croatian Navy, as in previous years participated in the organization of the championship with rubber boats and divers who have secured the swimmers during the marathon.
The overall winner, Mark Warkentin from the United States, was handed the Cup from the Commander of Navy Fleet, Navy Captain Marin Stosic.
