Defence Minister meets with the representatives of Centre for Peace Studies

The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and the Defence Minister Damir Krstičević met with the representatives of the Centre for Peace Studies Gordan Bosanac and Julija Kranjec on 11 January 2017.

The Minister and the Centre representatives praised the importance of the meeting, which highlighted the national security as the interest of all segments of the society: the importance of the dialogue was in that it leverages the quality of the documents and of a system guaranteeing security for any citizen of Croatia“.
“The presence of the staff of the Centre for Peace Studies proves the shared understanding for the issue of the security as one of the essential for the existence and progress of the Republic of Croatia. We intended to include all concerned state institutions and organisations, the civil community, various associations, the public concerned, the private sector and the citizens themselves in this process from the very start“, said Minister Krstičević, who delivered a presentation titled “The Homeland Security System – Partnership for Security“.
Minister  Krstičević said the system was not a replica of any other but rested on the experiences from the Homeland War.
“The objective of our model is to provide security, stability and development of the Croatian society. The evolving security paradigm and new security threats have dispersed the responsibility for security“, said the Minister. The national security and the homeland security system are all-national issues and we need to reach consensus of the ruling and the opposition parties. The new system of homeland security aims to nurture partnership of all its segments, and of the citizens and the private sector alike, to respond to complex threats“.
The Special Advisor to the Minister Dragutin Repinc briefed the Centre’s representatives on the activities of the Working Group for the Draft National Security Security of the Republic of Croatia and on the upcoming steps in its composition.
Gordan Bosanac concluded by praising the Ministry of Defence’s openness for dialogue and stressed the many mutually shared values; he also expressed the interest in continuing the dialogue and co-operation focussed on producing an effective system respecting human rights.
