Defence Minister visits flood-hit areas in the Sisak- Moslavina County15
The Croatian Defence Minister, Ante Kotromanović, on Sunday 14 September 2014 visited the flood-hit areas in the Sisak-Moslavina County, among which Žažina, where the members of the Croatian Armed Forces have been assigned with reinforcing the embankment and filling sandbags.
The Minister commended the efforts by the soliders commanded by the Training and Doctrine Command, Brigadier General Ivan Jurić, saying «The members of the Croatian Armed Forces are working tirelessly to curb the floods across a large territory of Croatia» said the Minister.
“The Croatian Armed Forces are going to deploy all the troops available to assist the local community and the flood-stricken residents; we are co-ordinating the efforts with the National Search and Rescue Directorate, the firemen and the local communities. We are ready to reinforce the dispatched forces where necessary, and will to our best to reduce the impact of the announced flood tide in the Sisak Moslavina County”.
The Minister announced dispatch of 120 soldiers to the area around Jasenovac.
There are presently 410 members of the Croatian Armed Forces assisting in the flood-hit areas in the Sisak-Moslavina County.
– in Žažina 92 soldiers, equipped with six motor vehicles, are assisting the locals by reinforcing the embankment and filling the sandbags;
– at Letina 121 soldiers are working on reinforcing the embankment and filling sandbags; they have four motor vehicles and three busses at their disposal;
– 44 soldiers are taking part in reinforcing the embankment in the village of Letovanić, and 57 are assisting the locals in the area of Staro Pračno;
– in the area around Drenčina are 64 soldiers, filling the sandbags, and in Nova Drenčina 32 members, equipped with five motor vehicles.
