Deputy Minister Tafra to attend the EU Foreign Affairs Council

Deputy Defence Minister, Višnja Tafra, is attending the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting at the defence minister level in Luxembourg on 15 April 2014.

The meeting is to open with the European Defence Agency Steering Committee, addressing the continuation of the activities initiated in compliance with the conclusions of the European Council of December 2013, the assignments related to the military capabilities and industry. The EDA is preparing the report for the ministers on the progress made, to include the initial proposals for the Policy Framework to foster more systematic and long term defence.
In the section addressing maritime security, the Joint Communication by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the European Commission titled „For an open and secure global maritime domain: elements for a European Union maritime security strategy” is to be presented to the ministers. 

The agenda also includes the EUFOR CAR Operation, briefing the participants on the situation in the Central African Republic and the launching of the EUFOR CAR. The ministers will be joined by the Operation Commander.

The meeting will conclude with the discussion on the situation in Ukraine, with the participation by the NATO Secretary General.
