Engineer Coy to return to Vukovar as planned

The Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević  and the  Chief of the General Staff  of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov on 21 September 2017 were on a working visit to Vukovar, where they were welcomed by the Mayor of the town Ivan Penava and toured the barracks of the 5th Guards Brigade “Slavonski sokolovi” in Vinkovci.

The delegation of the Ministary of Defence and of the Croatian Armed Forces also visited the Barracks “204 Vukovarska brigada”  and was briefed on the course of works of equipment and refurbishment of the accomodation facilities. The Barracks remodelling is a part of the project of return of the units of the Croatian Armed Forces to the towns where they had been stationed before,  which is aimed at upgrading the living and working conditions of the Croatian soldiers and of overall security, with a positive impact on the development of the local community and economy. 
The barracks in Vukovatr is planned to house the Engineer Company of the Engineer Battalion of the Guards Armoured Mechanised Brigade, presently stationed in Vinkovci.

“Our aim is to bring soldiers closer to their families, whose support is vital for their strength and motivation“, said Minister Krstičević , and also stressed that the works were progressing as planned enabling the return of the Croatian Armed Forces unit to Vukovar by 18 November.
The Minister also expressed satisfaction over the oath-taking ceremony of the students of the military schools held in Vukovar again. “I am glad that this year we returned the ceremony to Vukovar, as the connection between  the Croatian Armed Forces and Vukovar  is very strong“.
During the visit to Vukovar the delegation and the Mayor of Vukovar laid a wreath on the Memorial Cemetery of the Victims of the Homeland War.
Minister Krstičević also visited the Barracks of the 5th Guards Brigade “Slavonski sokolovi“, where he was briefed by the Commander of the Guards Armoured Mechanised Brigade of the Croatian Army, Brigadier General Denis Tretinjak on the situation of the unit and its ongoing and future activities.
