Events on the occasion of Victory and Day of Homeland Gratitude, Day of Croatian Soldiers and 15th Anniversary of “Storm” military operation

The press conference on events celebrating the Day of Victory and Day of Homeland Gratitude, Day of Croatian Soldiers and 15th anniversary of Storm Operation was held today, August 2, in the Ministry of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity. The conference attended representatives of the Ministry of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence and representative of the Croatian Armed Forces.

This year’s ceremony marking Victory Day and Day of Homeland Gratitude, Day of Croatian Soldiers and 15th anniversary of the Storm operation, as emphasized at the conference, will take place under the slogan “All Together”, since in its organization have been involved all three ministries, and apart from the Croatian soldiers and policemen, Croatian veterans will also participate in the ceremony.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity Zoran Komar mentioned some of the activities which will be held to mark the Victory Day and Day of Homeland Gratitude,
Day of Croatian Soldiers and 15th Anniversary of Storm Operation.
Thus, in Knin, in evening on August 4, ministers of veterans and intergenerational solidarity, of defence and interior for the first time will organize a reception for wartime commanders during the Storm Operation. Compared to previous anniversaries, the new thing is that 30 Croatian veterans will also participate in raising the Croatian flag on the Knin fortress, together with police officers and members of the Croatian Armed Forces. As part of the ceremony on Thursday, August 5, there will be a parade of Croatian veterans and members of the “Veterans” Motorcycle Club in Knin. 100% disabled war veterans are also expected in the parade. Ministry of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity made a commemorative T-shirts coloured like uniforms of the Croatian Armed Forces and Special Police. On August 5, more than 60 veterans’ cooperatives will introduce their products at the stands in the centre of Knin for the first time.
The ceremonies marking the 15th anniversary of Storm Operation will be organized in other county centres throughout Croatia, and biggest will be in Zagreb and Osijek. In all activities, both in Knin and in county centres, members of the Croatian Armed Forces will actively participate.
“In addition to the regular activities, CAF will provide assistance in organizing the ceremonies in Zagreb and Osijek, where CAF will organize two major weapons’ display, and at the request of the local community in other cities in Croatia”, MOD State Secretary Zeljko Gorsic said.
Rear Admiral (UH) Zdenko Simicic said that all CAF services participate in commemorating the 15th Anniversary of Storm Operation, noting that all planned activities were implemented.
State Secretary of Ministry of Interior Miljenko Radinic said that policemen were ready for the big day, noting that the Croatian police would participate in the protocol and ceremonial echelon and that the police will put in force special traffic regulations during the expected arrival of a large number of citizens in Knin.
State Secretary of Ministry of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, Zoran Komar said that during preparation for marking the 5th of August, we took into account the economic situation in the country. “The financial terms of this year’s celebration will be more modest, but that does not mean that it will be more modest in terms of activities. Indeed, this year’s program is richer than previous celebrations”, State Secretary Komar said, and once again invited all Croatian citizens on the central celebration in Knin, and on other celebrations of  Victory Day and Day of Homeland Gratitude, the Day of Croatian Soldiers and 15th Anniversary of Storm Operation throughout Croatia.
