Exercise Closes 10th UN Military Observer Course

The final exercise of the UN Military Observer Course was conducted on 23 May 2013 at the Gakovo Training Range. The Course is certified by the UN and was conducted for the 10th consecutive year, preparing the Croatian Armed Forces officers for the UN military observer duty.

The three-week Course curriculum comprises basic military observer skills, comprehension of the context of the current peace operations, radio-communicating, communication with the media as well as specific skills such as crater analysis, the exercise of arms control or disarmament.

Field training is also a part of the Course, and provides a realistic setting of a UN mission, with the majority of the incidents of the scenario based on real experiences of the former observers.

The Course, which was attended by 17 servicemen, was conducted by the International Military Operations Training Centre (IMOTC), and administered by Captain Davor Popović. The visiting instructor this year was Captain Evangelos Charisopulos, member of the Greek Multinational Peace Support Operations Training Centre – the MPSOTC.
The support was provided by members of the Engineer Regiment, the Mechanised Guard Brigade, the Signal Regiment and the Special Military Police Company.
