Female officers of 20th HRVCON attend the Woman’s Shura

In the  “Dogan” Camp in Kabul in ISAFon Saturday 9 March 2013 Woman’s Shura (Council or Assembly) was convened at the occasion of the International Woman’s Day. It was attended by the female members of the 20th HRVCON, namely Major Silvia Filošević, Senior Chief Petty Officer Lenka Buće and Sergeant First Class Ružica Matić.

The Woman’s Shura was proposed by the Commander of the Regional Command Capital, Brig. Gen. Ali-Riza Kugua (TUR) and attended by tens of female residents of Kabul. They were addressed by the Envoy of the Minister of Women’s Affairs, Dr. Husin Bano Ghazanfer, who extended her appreciation for the initiative and pointed out the ameliorated status of women in Afghanistan over the past years enabled by the efforts of the international institutions. Dr. Ghazanfer went on to warn that the position was still below the desired level, and that more remained to be done to raise of the awareness of the local population on inseparability of the women’s rights from the human rights in general.   

The visitor of honour to the Shura was the sole female general in the Afghan National Army- Gen. Khatol Mohammad Zai as the role model of a successful woman in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, presently appointed Human Rights Director in the ANA. She addressed the Croatian women soldiers and expressed her appreciation for the efforts by the Republic of Croatia in security enhancement of Afghanistan.
