Foundation stone laid for the construction of dwellings for war disabled veterans and MOD employees
Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor laid today, July 28, in Slunj, the foundation stone for the construction of dwellings for housing Croatian war disabled veterans and MOD employees. Apart from Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, the ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence Branko Vukelic, Minister of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity Tomislav Ivic, representatives of the Karlovac County, City of Slunj, and veterans’ associations of the Homeland War.
At the site two buildings will be constructed with 46 apartments, of which 23 for the MOD. The value of the whole project is about 17 million kunas and completion is planned in 14 months.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said that this project was the best way to expresses care for the Croatian war veterans and their families. “This is an extremely valuable investment and I believe that this is truly an investment for the future in such difficult times when we struggle with the crisis,” PM said. Also, she noted that she believed that this project would be an incentive for the demographic development of Slunj area, and support the development of the local economy. PM recalled Croatian soldiers who gave their lives for a free, democratic and European Croatia, and stressed that the truth of the liberation war, a just, defensive and liberating must be sacred.
Defence Minister Branko Vukelic, in his speech said that the construction of two buildings was a certificate of quality cooperation of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, and the MOD and the city of Slunj. Minister Vukelic thanked the Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor without whose support it would not be possible to realize this project. “With this project, we started a new project of the MOD residential construction”, Minister Vukelic said, and added that by it we wanted to raise the CAF living standards. “The project began in Slunj, and will continue with the construction of dwellings in Vinkovci, Petrinja, Zadar, Split and Karlovac. The plan in Slunj is at least 50, and a maximum of 100 military housing for officers and NCOs in so called rotation”, Minister Vukelic said.
Minister of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity, Tomislav Ivic said that by this project the Government showed in the best way that the Croatian war veterans, who contributed most to free, independent and democratic Croatia, have not been forgotten,.
“This project shows that the Government takes care of the balanced development of all Croatian regions”, Mayor of Slunj Ivan Bogovic said. He said that the construction of these dwellings increased housing in Slunj.
When expressing his satisfaction with the construction of these apartments, Prefect of Karlovac County Ivan Vucic said that this was a confirmation that the Government takes care of social sensitivity. The foundation stone was blessed by the dean of the Slunj Church Deanery msgr. Mile Pecic.
