General Lovric and State Secretary Simunovic received in official visit the U.S. delegation

Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Drago Lovric and State Secretary of Ministry of Defence Pjer Simunovic and their associates, received today, 10 June 2011, in the official visit the U.S. delegation led by Commander of the U.S. Army Europe, Lieutenant General Mark Hertling.

Talks were on the ISAF operation in Afghanistan, ANA Military Police School in Kabul and the importance of training activities. General Lovric expressed satisfaction with excellent bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of training and peace support operations. State Secretary Simunovic said the strategic partnership of Croatia and United States, which relationships entered a new dimension by Croatia’s joining into NATO.
General Hertling commented on the content and scope of the international exercise “Immediate Response 11” which these days has been held at the military training area near Slunj and in Simulation Centre in Zagreb. “10 years ago such an exercise could not take place. Today, under the leadership of Croatia, representatives from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia have been involved in the exercise”, the General highlighted. He also stressed that this exercise is an opportunity to explore possible directions for future joint actions and possibilities for more joint training opportunities.

As part of the visit, the U.S. delegation headed by Gen. Hertling visited the Army Simulation Centre in Zagreb in which the staff, computer-supported part of the international military exercise “Immediate Response 11” has been taking place. At the simulation centre, American delegation was received by Chief of the CAF GS Planning Directorate, Major General Dragutin Repinc and Deputy Commander of the Army Brigadier General Zvonko Peternel.

During the day the American delegation will visit the training ground “Eugen Kvaternik” near Slunj where the field part of the exercise has been held.
