“Hrvatski vojnik” – 23 years with the Croatian soldiers

In 2014 the Croatian Ministry’s of Defence’s official magazine is marking 23 years of continuous publication.
The first issue came out in late November 1991, amidst heavy fighting in defence of the country and was readily acclaimed by the members of the Croatian armed forces and became recognisable in the wider region.

Initially, the magazine was a semi-monthly, featuring the stories of the daring achievements of the Croatian defenders and the articles on military-related topics. The format was maintained and the volume gradually increased, bringing more military reference until May 1995, whereafter it kept publishing military-relevant topics, while “Velebit“ brought features from the battlefields and other contents relevant for the members of the Croatian military.
The “Velebit” was published on a weekly basis until 2000, when it was superseded by “Obrana” – an informative and educational magazine with upgraded design and layout.
In 2004 the two editions (the military magazine “Hrvatski vojnik” and the “Obrana” weekly were merged into one publication titled “Hrvatski vojnik”, under the Public Affairs and Publishing Service of the Ministry of Defence  -initially a weekly, as of 2012 is published on a semi-weekly basis.
The “Hrvatski vojnik“ department has over the years diversified its activity, publishing books, photomonographs and documentaries, which repeatedly won international awards.
Since 2009 the Department has published the CROMIL magazine (in the English language), as a nationally and internationally distributed publication, communicating the capabilities and the in-country and international contributions of the Croatian Armed Forces.
