“Hrvatski vojnik” story wins EMPA prize for Best Article

The feature story titled “Two villages – two worlds apart”, published in the Croatian Ministry of Defence’s military magazine “Hrvatski vojnik”  in July 2014 has received the annual Best Article prize by the European Military Press Association (EMPA).

The prize has been awarded to the author, Vesna Pintarić, the Deparment Head of the Public Affairs and Publishing Service of the Ministry, at the ongoing EMPA Congress held in Tartu and Talinn, Estonia.
The article was composed during the visit of the journalist and photographer team of the ״Hrvatski vojnik“ magazine to the members of the 23rd Croatian Contingent in Afghanistan, and featuring the suggestive original photos by the Croatian Armed Forces’ official photographer, 1st Sergeant Stjepan Brigljević. It covered the assistance provided by the member of the Croatian Contingent to the residents of the ten poorest villages in the area around Mazar-e-Sharif, along with their regular duties. The story captured the moment of the delivery of supplies and aid to the local school and the reception by the beneficiaries, speaking volumes of the sizeable contribution of the Croatian Armed Forces members to a better and safer life in Afghanistan

The prize is a recognition to the work done by the “Hrvatski vojnik” magazine and will be published both in the EMPA  Journal and on the official EMPA web site  ( www.empamil.eu).

The EMPA Prize for the Best Article has been awarded since 2008, to promote the journalism in military magazines and is decided by voting of the EMPA members, composed of the editors of military magazines from 20  European countries.
