Hungarian Air Force Commander visits Croatian Air Force and Air Defence
Brigadier General Albert Safar, the Commander of the Hungarian Air, visited the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence 29-30 May, accompanied by the Hungarian Defence AttachéAndrea Gombos and Advisor for Aerial Operations Peter Simon.
The Hungarian delegation visited the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Headquarters and were received by the Commander, Brigadier General Dražen Ščuri. Following the presentation on the history and the organisation of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence, the delegation visited the Sljeme Radar Station and was briefed on the operational capabilities of the Air Space and Control Battalion of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence.
The delegation was taken to the Zemunik Barracks near Zadar, where they were briefed on the Croatian pilot education programme and the Pilot School Squadrons activities. The co-operation between the two Air Forces was rated as successful and beneficial, primarily with regard to the Smart Defence projects – the Pre-deployment Training Course, preparing the multinational helicopter crews to train the members of the Afghanistan Air Force and the Multinational Aviation Training Centre (MATC), with the Zemunik Air Base as an important asset.
Discussing the future co-operation directions, Brig.Gen. Ščuri stressed the interest for education of two Hungarian helicopter pilots and the Croatian interest to train an air space surveillance officer He also announced a border agreement regulating the border zone interception procedures practice for Croatian and Hungarian pilots (flying MiGs and Gripens respectively).
The Hungarian delegation also visited the places of interest in Zadar (including the Ancient Glass Museum) and concluded the visit by exchanging the protocolary gifts with the hosts.
