Iraqi Ambassador’s Introductory Visit to MOD
Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović on 16 May 2013 received the introductory visit of the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, H. E. Surood Najib.
The agenda of the meeting included a review of bilateral defence co-operation and possibilities for future projects of mutual interest. The Ambassador expressed Iraq’s interest in continued training of handlers and explosives detection military working dogs, to build upon the positive experience from the training co-operation of 2009 at the “Cpt Krešimir Ivošević” Training Centre at Dugo Selo.The discussion also included co-operation in defence industry and the possibilities for intensified presence of Croatian companies in Iraq, in a follow-up of the recent weapons and equipment Exhibition held in Split, Croatia (ASDA), which was also attended by a delegation from Iraq headed by the Chairman of the Anti-terrorist unit of Iraq, Gen. Talib Šgati Mišar Al Kinani. The Iraqi delegation expressed interest in acquiring Croatian-made military equipment.
The two delegations also jointly pledged support to the efforts by the international community towards peace, stability and democracy of Iraq and its democratic institutions.
