Jackal Stone Exercise Commander visited family of Ivica Jerak
Jackal Stone Exercise Commander Maj. Gen. Michael Repass, his deputy, Brigadier General Ivan Jurić and the principal NCO of the U.S. Special Operations Europe (SOCEUR) Master Sergeant Charles M. Sekelsky visited on September 22, family of Master Sergeant Ivica JERAK who was a member of the U.S. Special Forces that was killed on duty in 2005 in Husaybah in Iraq.
He has served in the U.S. Armed Forces for 17 years, since 1988.
In an emotional meeting, mother Mirka thanked for remembering her son and wished them good luck in the work wherever that would be.
Saying he sympathizes with Ivica’s family, Major General Repass, Commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command in Europe noted that they never forget the soldiers serving in their units: “It is my great honor to be here and you can be sure that we will never forget Ivica and he will be always remembered”.
Ivica’s brother Petar said he convinced himself that remembrance on his brother was alive. During a visit to America, he visited the place where his brother was working and the brother’s grave in the military cemetery in Arlington.
“He was a great and honorable soldier, doing a job he loved”, said Ivica’s comrade and friend, Master Sergeant Charles M Sekelsky.
General Jurić mentioned how nice it was to be a Croat and listen to what American colleagues were talking about Ivica.
In memory of Ivica Jerak, a wreath was laid and candles lit at the memorial plaque on the elementary school in Debeljak, and with minute of silence they paid tribute to the man about whom his American colleagues and friends have nothing but praise.
“It is an honor to stand here today. Ivica was my friend. He joined the U.S. Armed Forces and participated in many special operations. He was an honorable soldier who sacrificed his life for freedom”, the principal NCO of the U.S Special Operations Command in Europe said.
The U.S. Army three years ago, has invested nearly 700 000 kuna in building a children’s park, a sports center and in renovation of school in Debeljak, all in honor and gratitude of Master Sergeant Ivica Jerak.
In his military career, Master Sergeant Ivica Jerak got 47 decorations and medals including numerous decorations for fighting terrorism.
