Kotromanović met Head of the Central Military Commission of Communist Party of China

As part of his official visit to the People’s Republic of China, Defense Minister Ante Kotromanović met in Beijing with the Co-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of the People’s Republic of China, General Caihou Xu, who last year visited Croatia.

The Minister discussed with General Xu modalities of enhancing cooperation between the two ministries. This primarily relates to the exchange of experiences in participation in the UN operations, and through the exchange of officers in the school system, either as students or lecturers.

General Xu said that the bilateral relations between Croatia and the People’s Republic of China were on the rise, especially after the Croatian President visited China in 2005. He stressed that it would be necessary to make joint efforts to maintain peace in the world and the PRC has been contributing to this by sending troops to the UN operations. General Xu also presented systematic reforms in the People’s Republic of China. China last year had the second largest increase in gross national product in the world and is on a constant rise. However, the process of modernization in China is not easy. Systemic reform has been conducted that, in the words of General Xu, leads to improving the quality of life of people and the development of a better society in general. General Xu noted that the PRC insist on the peaceful resolution of all conflicts in the world, the development of harmony within the borders of the People’s Republic of China, which is in the spirit of the Chinese tradition, and China will continue to play an important role in the fight against piracy. “Perspective and harmonious world is the goal of the PRC’s foreign policy” General Xu said.

During the dinner after the meeting, along with the Chinese artists, Croatian Navy Band “Sveti Juraj” also participated in cultural program.
