Kutara Regatta in honor of St. Nicholas
Final race of rowing regatta on the occasion of the feast of St. Nicholas the patron of sailors, was held today, 5 December 2011, in Lora Naval Base – Split.
Competitions in rowing regatta were held from 1 to 6 December 2011 in the Kastela Gulf, with participation of units of the Croatian Navy and 5th cadet battalion from the composition of the Croatian Military Academy “Petar Zrinski” – Department of Split.
The Coast Guard took the title of winner of the traditional 800 meters long race. Third place went to the Navy headquarters crew, and fourth place went to Navy Flotilla. Cadets won the fifth place and sixth place went to the Split Naval Base.
The commander of the Croatian Navy, Rear Admiral Ante Urlic presented the awards to winners and stressed that a good and successful sailor, NCO and officers must be a good sailor for whom it was equally important traditions and techniques. If you do not know what it means to have a good wind, how to paddle, tie a rope we are not sailors. So in addition to warships and techniques to be a good sailor we must know seamanship skills.
