Meeting of representatives of EU candidates with Ashton
State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Pjer Simunovic participated on Tuesday, May 25, in Brussels, the meeting with senior representatives of the Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, which was organized for representatives of the ministries of defence of European NATO member countries (non-EU member) and the candidate countries for EU membership.
The above meeting was organized with the aim of continuing political dialogue and informing on major issues concerning the Common Foreign and Security Policy, followed after the meeting of the EU defence ministers, held in late April this year. The discussion was on the issues of missions and operations within the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, on the further cooperation and development of complementary capabilities between NATO and the EU, on the future structure of the European External Action Service – EEAS and the future format of meetings with Defence ministers of partner countries and the possible area of cooperation. Besides Croatian representatives, the meeting was also attended by representatives from Norway, Turkey, Iceland, Macedonia and Albania.
