Members of the 20th HRVCON component visited Zagreb mosque

As part of the preparations for the departure to the ISAF peace support mission in Afghanistan, members of the Guards Motorised Brigade of the 20th HRVCON visited on Monday, July 23, the Zagreb mosque.

After many years of cooperation with previous lecturer Prof. Dr. Aziz effendi Hasanović who in July was elected as the new head of the Islamic Community in Croatia, and succeeded the former mufti Ševko Omerbašić, the Islamic community has appointed the new associate for cooperation with the Armed Forces and MOD and for preparation for departure to peacekeeping missions.
This is mr. sc. Mirza effendi Mešić, the imam in Zagreb mosque and Master of International Relations from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb.

The host welcomed members of the peacekeeping mission in front of the newly opened Memorial centre for the Muslims killed during the Homeland War. Specifically, in June this year in front of the Zagreb mosque, in a renovated city park, in the presence of thousands of people, the Memorial complex in gratitude and lasting memories of more than 1,100 Muslims who gave their lives in defence during the Croatian Homeland War of 1991 – 1995, was officially opened. Construction of the Memorial park and the memorial, which spread to 11,000 square meters, was initiated by the Association of Bosniak participants of the Croatian Homeland War and by the Islamic community in Croatia, and the largest contribution to the realization of this project was given by the Government, Ministry of Veterans and the City of Zagreb. The memorial complex is dominated by a monument made of stone and 28 dark gray marble slabs on which have been engraved in alphabetical order the names of all Bosniaks who gave their lives in the defence of Croatia.

After the Memorial centre, the visit continued by the lecture in the mosque and by entering the praying area where CAF members got a number of useful examples and information related to Muslim customs and tribal traditions of the Afghan people.

At the end of lecture the leader of the component Captain Bruno Marković addressed the host, expressing appreciation for the content and interesting lecture.
