Memorandum on military cooperation between Croatia and Macedonia
Minister of Defence Branko Vukelic and Macedonian Minister of Defence Zoran Konjanovski signed on Monday, May 31, in Bitola a Memorandum on cooperation in the field of defence between the two ministries.
This is a continuation of quality cooperation that has been implemented over the past decade.
Memorandum oversees cooperation in the areas of defence policy, logistics support, military education and training, humanitarian, peacekeeping and crisis management operations, and opens the possibility of even wider cooperation in the areas of military exercises, exchange of staff, lecturers and experts in specific fields, data exchange etc.
Minister Vukelic particularly emphasized opportunities for cooperation on the issue of exchange of experiences in the process of production of armoured vehicles, then the possibility of including Aeronautical Technical Centre in maintaining of Macedonian helicopters and fire fighting aircraft as well as possibilities of cooperation in other areas of military technical cooperation. Also, during talks with Minister Konjanovski, Croatian Minister of Defence highlighted the strong Croatia’s support for Macedonia accession to NATO, which is important not only for Macedonia but also for security in the region, and thus for Croatia as well.
Minister Konjanovski expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between the two ministries, and particularly thanked on the previous opportunities for training of members of the Macedonian army on the Croatian Military Academy, and stressed the possibilities of joint use of ‘Krivolak’ military training ground in Macedonia for the training of soldiers who would be deployed in peacekeeping operations.
Croatia has so far cooperated with Macedonia in the field of education, and since 2004, Macedonian non-commissioned officers and officers have been attending training at all levels at the Croatian Military Academy, which would intensify in the future, and Croatia and Macedonia also worked well through a series of international and regional initiatives, particularly through the U.S.-Adriatic Charter (A5) and RACVIAC Centre for Security Cooperation.
