Minister Anušić Attends the Munich Security Conference
Minister Anušić: Declaration on Defence Cooperation Between Croatia, Albania, and Kosovo Poses No Threat
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić is attending the Munich Security Conference today and tomorrow, the 62nd edition of one of the world’s most significant global security forums, which brings together international and European leaders and experts in security, foreign policy and geostrategy.
In the delegation of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Minister Anušić held several meetings today on the margins of the Munich Security Conference. These included a trilateral meeting with the Ministers of Defence of the Republic of Albania and the Republic Kosovo, who are signatories to the Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation between Croatia, Albania, and Kosovo.
“The Munich Conference is being held in a challenging environment, with many questions and not many answers, but with a markedly different awareness of the security context. European leaders are gradually presenting more concrete and realistic positions that support the defence and security of Europe. On a global scale, things are changing. Croatia is participating as a part of the Prime Minister’s delegation, and we engage in all developments of new situations and new circumstances, while safeguarding the interests of the Republic of Croatia and its citizens,” said Minister Anušić.
The minister also commented on the trilateral meeting with his counterparts from Albania and Kosovo.
“The Declaration we signed last year is being implemented. We are cooperating closely, developing joint activities, and providing technical support in terms of defence industry projects and cooperation between our armed forces. There is absolutely nothing controversial in that declaration, nor does it pose a threat to anyone. I am emphasising this, as it is the most prevalent topic in the regional media. We have new plans, further meetings and additional activities scheduled for this year,” the Minister of Defence stated.
Responding to journalists’ questions, Minister Anušić underscored that Croatia is absolutely committed to the stability and integrity of the NATO Alliance.
“NATO is the strongest military alliance in the world. It must survive this crisis, and I sincerely hope that it will. Croatia will make every effort to ensure that this is the case,” Minister Anušić concluded.
On the margins of the Munich Conference, Minister Anušić also met with Amir Baram, Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defence, ahead of his official visit to that country scheduled for the end of February.
