Today, 3 April 2025, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić participated at the informal meeting of Defence Ministers of the European Union, which is held in Warsaw, Republic of Poland.
The Defence Ministers discussed the increase in EU military support to Ukraine, the White Paper on the Future of European Defence and the ReArm Europe Plan.
This meeting precedes the European Council meeting, which will be held in June, at which concrete decisions are expected to be made.
“We discussed, of course, the White Paper and everything that the White Paper brings to Europe and to us as EU members. We also discussed further assistance to Ukraine – both financial, political and economic support in its fight for freedom and independence. Next Thursday, there will be a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Brussels, at which I will participate together with other Defence Ministers. The ways of assisting Ukraine through military assistance and actions that Croatia has provided to it so far will be developed.
What is crucial to emphasize is that although we will be part of the Coalition of the Willing, Croatian soldiers will not be deployed to Ukraine. This needs to be emphasized and this is, of course, Croatia’s position,” the Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić said.
“Croatia will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine, and it is necessary to achieve a just peace, which is the only one that can be sustainable,” Anušić continued.
Regarding the White Paper on the Future of European Defence, the Republic of Croatia welcomes the initiative for such a document, which is important precisely because of our collective commitment to security
Minister Anušić emphasized the commitment of the Republic of Croatia to actively contribute to joint European efforts to strengthen security and stability.
The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia will continue to actively participate in discussions on security and defence issues at the European and international levels, thereby contributing to the security of Croatia and its citizens.
