Minister Anušić Meets with U.S. Ambassador McGraw: Croatian and U.S. Cooperation is Key to Regional Security
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Croatia, Ivan Anušić, and the U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, Nicole McGraw, held their first meeting at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Croatia, Ivan Anušić, together with and the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Tihomir Kundid, met with the U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, Nicole McGraw, at the Ministry of Defence on 14 November 2025.
This was the first meeting between Minister Anušić, General Kundid, and Ambassador McGraw. During this meeting, the continuation of defence cooperation was strongly reaffirmed. Discussions focused on the current geopolitical situation, security in Southeast Europe, continued support for Ukraine, and bilateral defence cooperation. Minister Anušić congratulated Ambassador McGraw on her new appointment and welcomed her to Croatia.
“The United States is Croatia’s most important strategic partner in both defence and security. Our cooperation within NATO and the Adriatic Charter is crucial for the stability and security of Southeast Europe,” stressed Minister Anušić. He also highlighted the long-standing successful cooperation between Croatia and the U.S. in defence, particularly through joint military exercises, training and education, and participation in international missions and operations.
Regarding the development of defence capabilities, Minister Anušić highlighted ongoing projects to equip and modernise the Croatian Armed Forces, including the acquisition of Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, and HIMARS rocket systems. The delivery of HIMARS systems is scheduled for 2028.
They also discussed the necessity of national investment in defence. The Minister emphasised Croatia’s commitment to meet NATO guidelines, aiming for defence spending to reach 5% of GDP by 2035, with 3.5% allocated for defence and 1.5% for dual-use capabilities. Regarding the current situation in Ukraine, Minister Anušić stated: “Ukraine, fighting Russian aggression for nearly four years, is defending all of Europe. Croatia will continue to support Ukraine as it has until now.”
On this occasion, the Minister thanked the Minnesota National Guard for participating in the ceremonial parade held in Zagreb on 31 July, 2025.
Minister Anušić thanked Ambassador McGraw for her visit. Both sides agreed that the cooperation between Croatia and the United States is vital for regional security and the development of defence capabilities. They expressed intention for continued dialogue and further enhancement of bilateral relations.
