Minister Anušić meets with U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Trey Lyons; State Secretary Galić receives the Legion of Merit Award
On 31 March 31 2025, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić, accompanied by Chief of the CAF General Staff Lieutenant General Tihomir Kundid, met with the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Croatia, Trey Lyons, at the U.S. Embassy in Zagreb.
The discussions focused on ongoing joint projects to equip the Croatian Armed Forces in cooperation with the United States, as well as on global security challenges.
“In partnership with our strategic ally, the United States, Croatia continues to modernize and equip its Armed Forces. This strengthens our military capabilities and reaffirms Croatia’s position as a modern, capable, and powerful armed force,” said Minister Anušić.
State Secretary Galić receives the U.S. Legion of Merit Award
On this occasion, during a formal ceremony at the U.S. Embassy, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Tomislav Galić, was awarded the prestigious Legion of Merit Award in recognition of his service as Croatia’s Defence Attaché to the United States.
The Legion of Merit is a distinguished U.S. military decoration and the highest honour the U.S. Department of Defense can confer upon a foreign military officer, recognizing exceptional service, distinguished conduct, and outstanding achievements.
The award was presented by U.S. Defence Attaché to Croatia, Colonel Scott McLearn, who expressed gratitude to Secretary Galić for his significant contribution to strengthening bilateral military cooperation between Croatia and the United States. “This award is a testament to your professionalism and your contribution to strengthening the cooperation between our armed forces,” Colonel McLearn said.
Minister Anušić also congratulated State Secretary Galić, noting that the award further confirms his exemplary service and professionalism, which contributes to enhancing the international reputation of the Croatian Armed Forces.
In his remarks, State Secretary Galić expressed his gratitude for the honour, calling it a great privilege. He also thanked all his colleagues who, during his four-year term as Defence Attaché in the U.S., contributed to strengthening the alliance and partnership between the two countries.
