Minister Anušić: We want to bolster up and empower the domestic military industry and modernize the Croatian Army
The Minister of Defence discussed the challenges and opportunities for development of the domestic defence industry within the ReArm Europe Plan with representatives of the HUP, HBOR and Agencija Alan d. o. o.
Today, 19 March 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia between the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of Defence Ivan Anušić and representatives of the Croatian Employers’ Association (HUP), the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development (HBOR) and Agencija Alan d. o. o.
The focus of the meeting was on opportunities and challenges of the Croatian defence industry in the context of the ReArm Europe Plan and their further development.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of Defence stated that the main topic of the meeting was development and reinforcement of the Croatian defence industry, as well as empowerment of the Croatian Army. “We discussed connecting all segments of society, especially our companies, knowledge and experience in the defence industry. We want to strengthen our production and products and continue to modernize the Croatian Army,” the Minister emphasized.
The Minister also stressed the importance of further developing the defence production and economy and reducing bureaucracy in order to speed up the implementation of projects. “Defence forces are not just an expense. They are a key component of our economy and Croatia has the capacity to make significant breakthrough in this sector,” he concluded.
Irena Weber, the Director General of the Croatian Employers’ Association, stressed the importance of initiating a dialogue aimed at strengthening and investing in the domestic military and defence industry: “As an employers’ association, we continuously advocate for strengthening domestic industry and creating new working places in industries with higher added value. The defence industry is certainly a sector we need to focus on, especially in the current geopolitical situation.”
She also emphasized the importance of repositioning Croatia within the new ReArm project at the European Union level, using its own knowledge and capacities to strengthen the domestic economy and the domestic military and defence industry.
The participants of the meeting emphasized the importance of a strategic approach to development of the defence industry and agreed that strengthening the domestic defence industry is crucial not only for national security but also for economic growth, exports and technological development.
