Minister Bozinovic met Secretary General of the European external action service
Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic met on Tuesday, 18 January 2011, the Chief Executive Secretary of the European external action service (EEAS) Pierre Vimont. Pierre Vimont briefed Minister Bozinovic on the organization of a new European foreign service, which includes diplomatic, developmental and military component, which will enable more effective and fruitful work of the European Union in the world.
Minister Bozinovic expressed Croatia’s support as a future EU member for the development of the Common Foreign and Security Policy. The Minister stressed that Croatia is in the final stage of membership negotiations, and that all efforts were aimed toward concluding the negotiations by the end of Hungary’s EU presidency. In this respect, especially bearing in mind the important contribution that Croatia has already provided to the EU Common Security and Defence Policy, through participation in civilian missions and military operations, and through building the necessary capabilities, he stressed the Croatia’s interest to involve our diplomats, defense and military advisers in the work of this new European service.
During the meeting they also discussed the need to strengthen cooperation and synergies between the EU and NATO, both in field of operations, and in terms of development of military capabilities, and greater involvement of partner countries that contribute to EU operations in the process of analysis and design of decisions of the European Union .
Pierre Vimont thanked on the Croatia’s involvement and contribution in strengthening the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy and expressed his support to Croatia’s efforts regarding the EU membership.
