Minister Bozinovic visited “Pk Predrag Matanovic” Barracks in Petrinja

Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic visited on Wednesday, 19 January 2011, “Pk Predrag Matanovic” Barracks in Petrinja where he visited the newly built accommodation for CAF soldiers and NCOs, constructed under the project “Croatian barracks of the 21st century”.

It is a dual accommodation facility, measuring about 3150 square meters for accommodation of about 150 soldiers and NCOs, which should become the standard of accommodation in barracks all over Croatia. By visiting the newly built structures, the Minister in a media statement said that it was through the project “Croatian Barracks of 21st Century” that the Croatian Armed Forces started to create the conditions for life and work of the soldiers by the standards of most developed countries in NATO. “This is a very important project that must continue, and this year we have to find funds to continue with this project”, Minister Bozinovic said. He also stressed that regardless of all the existing technology and modernization, people remain the main resource.

He also noted that the “Croatian Barracks of the 21st Century” project foreseen the construction of 6 buildings of this type of accommodation. Total construction costs for this new accommodation facility was approximately 22.5 million, and projected cost of building of 5 new accommodation facilities will be approximately 110 million kunas. In developing the project, we used the experience and standards of the German and American armed forces, and then adapted it to the Croatian needs. Inside the newly built accommodation facility there is a total of 44 bedrooms, 2 classrooms/clubs, 8 offices and 44 bathrooms.
During the visit to the “Pk Predrag Matanovic” barracks, Minister Bozinovic was also introduced with tasks of the Army, projects, equipping and modernization of facilities used by the Army, training system, the participation of members of the Army in international peacekeeping missions and operations by the Commander of the Army , Lieutenant General Mladen Kruljac. General Kruljac in his presentation stressed that the main directions and tasks of the Army was equipping and modernization and construction of infrastructure to raise standards of living and working for the members of the Army, as well as equipping and training for participation in international peacekeeping missions and operations, implementation of the force goals and the establishment of an effective system of training and construction of training infrastructure. On the deployment of troops, accommodation and storage facilities, and training infrastructure in the “Pk Predrag Matanovic” Barracks Minister Bozinovic was informed by the Commander of the Guard Motorized Brigade, Brigadier General Mladen Fuzul. Minister Bozinovic at the end of his visit met with soldiers based at the barracks, members of the Guard Motorized Brigade, with whom he talked about the accommodation facilities and living and working conditions in the barracks.
