Minister Buljević visits Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Croatian Defence Minister  Josip Buljević on 30 May 2016 met with the Defence Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marina Pendeš, during the official visit to  the neighbouring country.

The two ministers discussed the bilateral defence co-operation and the options to further promote it. They agreed that the co-operation was satisfactory,  particularly in the domains of education of training, as students from Bosnia and Herzegovina attended the various programmes in the Croatian Defence Academy.
The two ministers praised the productive bilateral co-operation within the U.S.-Adriatic Charter, particularly through the joint deployment of its members in Resolute Support Mission.
Minister Buljević said that the membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Euro-Atlantic association was a political and security interest of the Republic of Croatia.
“Our interest is to see Bosnia and Herzegovina  as a member of European and NATO family, on which way it will enjoy full support from the Government of the Republic of Croatia and its institutions, including the Ministry of Defence, which can do most with regard to the membership in NATO and technical assistance, advocating and other forms of assistance. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia are neighbour countries with strong historical connections and they both are determined to build their future together “, said Minister Buljević.
The Minister stressed the value of the Croatian experiences with NATO and the EU pre-accession processes for the aspirant countries.
The Defence Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marina Pendeš extended appreciation to the Croatian Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the support and advocating oin favour of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The two sides exchanged the views on the current security situation in southeast Europe, faced with a series of threats, from challenged state institutions, unresolved bilateral issues, growing religisous radicalism and foreign combatants in ISIL.
Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatian should closely co-operate in the prevention and proactive operation against the threts.
The Croatian delegation visited the Peace Support Operations Training Centre of Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina at Butmir, where they were welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Defence for Policy and Planning, Sead Jusić.
