Jordan is an important partner of the EU and NATO in the Middle East, providing the critical support in joint response to the ISIS and to the migrant crisis. The partnership has been materialised through a variety of formal mechanisms established by the EU (European Neighbourhood Policy) and NATO (Defence Capacity Building and the Enhanced Opportunity Programm) respectively. The Republic of Croatia fully supports the current and future co-operation between the Alliance and Jordan, having hosted a study programme of the representatives of government administration bodies entailing the familiarisation with its experiences in the field of instititional co-operation of the Government with the civil society.
The Minister is visiting Jordan in a moment of growing pressure by the migrants from Syria (the number of registered migrants reaching 637,859 while the total numer estimated by the Jordanian Government is cca 1.3 million) and the terrorist threats from its closest vicinity.
The meeting of Minister Buljević and the Jordanian Minister of Defence was therefore focussed on the global security, primarily the crisis in the Middle East, Jordan’s co-operation with NATO and possible support from Croatia in that regard and the expansion of the bilateral co-operation in the domain of defence, defence technology and military equipment.
