Minister Buljević visits Republic of Kosovo

The Croatian Defence Minister Josip Buljević is on an official visit to the Republic of Kosovo from 6 to 8 March 2016.

During his first official bilateral visit Minister Buljević met with the Minister of Kosovo Security Force  Haki Demolli, with the President of the Republic of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga and with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, visited the Kosovo Army Command and the Kosovo Security Force University Study Center.  

On the agenda of the meeting with the Minister of the Kosovo Security Force were the bilateral relations and modalities to enhance the defence co-operation, as well as the concrete support from  the Republic of Croatia and its Ministry of Defence to the reform of the institutions of Kosovo and its prospects with respect to Euroatlantic integration. The two ministers also highlighted the importance of continued efforts towards the integration of Kosovo into the southeast European defence formats and initiatives.

The two delegations evaluated highly the bilateral co-operation between the ministries and expressed the ambition to expand it and to focus on the development of defence capabilities and of the Kosovo Security Force.

Minister Buljević stressed Croatia strongly supported Kosovo Security Force as a future factor of security and stability in southeast Europe and wider through the participation in international missions and operations.

The two Ministers exchanged the views on the current global security situation and its implications on the situation in southeast Europe.  They  focussed on the challenge posed by the migrant crisis and the growing issue of radicalism in southeast Europe and discussed  the possibilities of the opening of alternative migratory routes. 

They also called on all countries to take maximal efforts to forestall ISIL and radicals’ activities as a common challenge which opened a new dimension of co-operation. 

Also discussed was the continued Croatian engagement  in facilitating the development ofKosovo stability of Kosovo through the KFOR and EULEX Operations. Discussing with the President of Kosovo,  Atifete Jahjaga and the Prime Minister Isa Mustafa Minister Buljevć extended firm support from the Republic of Croatia to Kosovo’s Euroatlantic orientation and to the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia. The Minister also welcomed Kosovo’s determination to conduct structural reforms and strengthen its institutional capacities.
