Minister Kotromanović visiting Iraq

 Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović is leading a delegation of the Ministy of Defence on an official visit to the Iraqi Republic from 19 do 22 January 2014. On 22 January Minister was received by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki.

The two senior officials praised the high level of the bilateral defence co-operation and welcomed the visit as an important event in that context.

Defence Minister Kotromanović expressed the determination of the Republic of Croatia to continue the  engagement in the efforts by the international community towards creating the conditions for lasting stability in Iraq, with the emphasis on enhancing the Iraqi capacities to meet autonomously the challenges of building a more secure and prosperous society “Through the participation in the NATO Training Mission in Iraq the Republic of Croatia provided valuable contribution to the equipping and training of Iraqi Armed Forces”, stated Minister Kotromanović.
Discussing the general security situation in Iraq, also within the wider region,  the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki extended his appreciation to the Republic of Croatia for the support provided in the building of stable Iraqi society and i enhancing the capabilities of the Iraqi Security Forces. He also pledged  support to enhanced co-operation between the manufacturing and overall economic sectors of the two countries.
 
The visit to the Ministry of Defence of the Iraqi Republic included meetings with a number of senior officials of the Iraqi Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces, and a visit to the Iraqi Military Academy to discuss the modalities of future defence co-operation, with the focus on military training and education and the military technical co-operation.
