Minister Krstičević lays cornerstone for the firehouse in Dugi Rat

“Firemen are our heroes, and the construction of  the firehouse is a way for the community to repay them for their sacrifice”, said the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević,laid the cornerstone for the new firehouse in Dugi Rat near Omiš on 27 December 2018.

The ceremony  was attended by the Special Advisor to the Defence Minister Ivica Ušljebrka and the Prefect of the Split-Dalmatia County Blaženko Boban and the representatives of the Voluntary Firefighter Company “Dalmacija” in Dugi Rat. 

Minister Krstičević extended appreciation to all firemen for the outstanding engagement during the firefighting season, saving the property and lives of the affected citizens, and  emphasised that the new firehouse was a way the community repaid them for their sacrifice. 

The Minister Krstičević underlined the essential role of the firemen, Croatian soldiers, policemen, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, medical personnel, the associations and citizens themselves in fighting fires and other natural disasters. In 2018 the Homeland Security System, basedf on parnership for security, has been established to ensure closer co-ordination and quicker response. 

The Voluntary Firefighter Company “Dalmacija” is marking its 80th anniversary in 2018, and its firehouse in building is concieved as a firefighter excellence offering training for the young personnel and  working and living conditions enabling the upgrade of capabilities for the voluntary firemen. 

The Fire Department of Dugi Rat was founded in 1938, as then Voluntary  Industrial Firefighter Company of the factory “LA DALMATIENNE” Dugi Rat. In 1984 it joined the territorial Volunteer Firefighter Company of the town of Omiš, until the establishment of the Dugi Rat municipality, when it became a self-standing Voluntary Firefighter Company responsible for Dugi Rat.
