Minister Krstičević meets with Ambassador of Hungary

The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and the Defence Minister Damir Krstičević on 18 January rmet with the Ambassador of Hungary to the Republic of Croatia, H.E. József Zoltán Magyar.

The Minister and the Ambassador reviewed the good bilateral co-operation nurtured in several domains, including the joint activities by the special forces and military police forces and the participation in exercises.
The two sides confirmed shared interests associated with the challenges faced by both  countries, and Minister Krstičević underlined the importance of co-operation with the neighbouring Hungary, in view of the centuries-long common history and the Central European identity.
Mnister Krstičević briefed Ambassador Magyar on the defence-related programme and objectives of the Government and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia, stressing the economic growth and enhanced defence and security capabilities as priority. A starting move in that process is the drafting of the National Security Strategy and the concept of the Homeland Security, to be followed by the drafting of the Defence Strategy and of the Military Strategy respectively, as well as new defence-related legislation. A Homeland Security System will be put in place, integrating the capablities of all government bodies to achieve a timely and effective response to security risks and threats. 
Discussing the NATO-EU co-operation, the Minister underlined the global and regional security and stability as an important determinant of the Croatian state politics, which will continue to support the credible  and effective security and defence policy of the EU.
Croatia supports the implementation of the Joint EU-NATO Declaration from the Warsaw Summit, primarily regarding the enhanced co-operation in countering hybrid and cyber threats, enhanced capabilities and resilience and defence industry, said the Minister.  
 The Minister and the Ambassador also addressed the Central European Defence Co-operation, where Croatia supports the proactive approach and the ongoing efforts concerning the migrant crisis, the project prioritisation and  clear definition of the concrete role of the member countries’ armed forces in handling the crisis, in view of their legal authority.
