Minister Krstičević meets with Defence Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević on 23 March 2018 met with the Defence Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Marina Pendeš during her official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

The ministers affirmed the excellent co-operation between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, primarily in the domain of military education and training of members of the Armed Forces of B&H in Croatian Military Academy, and stated that considerable potential for co-operation lied in the defence industry.

Minister Krstičević stressed that the co-operation with Bosnia and Herzegovina was of major importance for Croatia, which supports each reform leading to the equality of the three constituent peoples.

Minister Krstičević expressed satisfaction over the continuous interest in the education of members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in various military programmes. , excellent, we have a well-established the co-operation between the respective training institutions, which comprises various training events and also the exchange of instructors. ”

Minister Krstičević briefed Minister Pendeš on the concept of the homeland security system and with the engagement of members of the Croatian Army in flood response activities, and stressed that the assistance to civilian population is the most important task of the Croatian Armed Forces at the moment. The ministers agreed on future co-operation and exchange of experiences related to crises and natural disasters. “We will gladly share our valuable experience with assistance to the people responding to natural disasters“, said Minister Krsticevic.

Minister Pendeš emphasised that the successful defence co-operation was evinced by the joint participation of the two countries in NATO-led Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan, within the U.S.-Adriatic Charter, with two members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina serving within the Croatian contingents. “We see the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Defence as our friends and partners and we share two main foreign policy goals: membership in NATO and in the EU. I am taking the opportunity to express appreciation to Croatia for advocating the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the acticve support to fulfill the goals. The peace and stability in southeast Europe is of absolute importance and co-operation with the neighbouring countries is essential; only safe countries can attract investors to facilitate the development of the economy and dissuade the young people from leaving the country“, said Minister Pendeš.

The two ministers also exchanged views on the current security and political situation in Europe and the world, and underlined the importance of stability and security of southeast Europe.

Following the bilateral meeting they toured the static display of weapons and military equipment used by the Croatian Armed Forces in the Ministry of Defence compound presenting the products of the Croatian defence industry and visited the firm “HS PRODUKT d.o.o.“ in Karlovac.
