Minister Krstićević takes part in 4th RACVIAC/KAS Conference on Security Challenges for Europe
The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević on 7 December 2016 attended the opening of the 4th annual “Conference on Security Challenges for Europe“ organised by RACVIAC (Centre for Security Co-operation) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Office in Croatia, with the support from the Ministy of Defence of the Republic of Croatia.
Minister Krstičević addressed the participants following the formal opening that the security challenges for Europe were most complex and required a joint action by all countries in Europe, and that no country could withstand them on its own.
The Minister praised the role of RACVIAC and its contribution to the regional security dialogue„“Since its inception from 16 years ago RACVIAC has played an important role as an international organisation with regional ownership for promoting regional cooperation, commonly accepted values, particularly peace, stability, security and democracy in the SEE.
Minister Krstičević said peace, security and stability as well as the development of democracy in the neighbouring countries were a priority, and emphasised the importance of the co-operation in security, to which the Conference was dedicated.
The Director of the Centre, Ambassador Haydar Berk said the objective of the conference was to enable an open and comprehensive discussion on common security threats and on the ways to overcome the existing threats, with respect to the ongoing or required security sector reform and to the required level of security capabilities and interoperability of the aspirant countries.
Ambassador Berk said the 2016 Conference was specific for including the members of the academic community in deliberating on the national security policy in the Science Forun, presenting the papers by the academic institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Serbia.
The Conference was attended by a number of ambassadorial staff accredited to the Republic of Croatia and a number of senior officials – the Deputy Defence Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sead Jusić, Assistant Defence Minister for Defence Policy of the Republic of Slovenia Aleš Mišmaš and the Croatian Assistant Defence Minister for Defence Policy Nikola Brzica, as panellist in the first panel titled “Security Challenges for Europe and beyond“.
Pursuant to the respective Technical Agreement signed by the two institutions, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia has supported RACVIAC by funding its activities, seconding its personnel to the Centre and engaging its subject matter experts in the security domains covered by the activities of the Centre.
