Minister Krstičević visits Guards Armoured Mechanised Brigade
The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and the Defence Minister Damir Krstičević and the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov heading the delegations of the Ministry of Defence and of the Croatian Armed Forces visiting eastern Slavonia on 10 February 2017 visited the Barracks of the 5th Guards Brigade “Sllavonski sokolovi” in Vinkovci
which houses the Command and of the subordinated units of the Guards Armoured Mechanised Brigade of the Croatian Army. The Minister and the Chief of the General Staff were welcomed by the Commander f the Guards Armoured Mechanised Brigade, Brigadier General Denis Tretinjak and the Brigade Staff, who delivered presentations on the history, the organisation, tasks, achievements and plans related to the Brigade as well as on the key staff and Brigade’s components personnel .
The visit to the Barracks commenced with the laying of the wreaths and paying of respects to the fallen members of the 5th Guards Brigade, on which occasion the Minister said:“The symbols of the Homeland War must be guarded, and our fellow combatants and friends never fall into oblivion, as it determines our relation to the future generations“.
The delegations then visited the Tactical and Operations Centre, the accomodation facilities and the phono lab.
The Minister said that the Guards Armoured Motorised Brigade as successor of the legendary wartime units of the Croatian Army was a well-organised brigade and a strong component of the Croatian Armed Forces, assigned with a number of tasks and capabilities acquired. Its members are its key value, and is in the Ministry of Defence focus. “You have been assigned with a visible contribution to the stability and peace of our country, with the assistance to the citizens of Croatia in the event of need as well as with the contribution to the global security and stability through the engagement in international missions and operations“, said the Minister.
“The Brigade members evince a high level of responsibility and readiness to conduct the assigned tasks. It is our responsibility to provide still better conditions for them“, said the Chief of the General Staff.
The Guards Armoured Mechanised Brigade integrated the battalions succeeding the 3rd Guards Briigade (“Kuna”), the 7th Guards Brigade (“Puma”) and the 5th Guards Brigade (“Sokolovi”). It also comprises the Armour Battalion, the Artillery and Missile Battalion, the Engineer Battalion, the Air Defence Battalion, the Command Company, the Logistic Company, the Military Intelligence Company and the Signal Company. The Brigade’s main mission is protection of the sovereignty and integrity of the Republic of Croatia, development and maintenance of the capabilities of participation in international military operationds and the readiness to assist the civilian institutions in the event of natural or man-made disasters.
