Minister Vukelic visited Licko-senjska County
Defence Minister Branko Vukelic and his associates visited on Wednesday, February 24, Gospic – the center of Licko-senjska County, where he met with the County Governor Milan Jurkovićem and mayors of Otocac and Gospic, Mario Barkovic and Milan Kolic.
Minister Vukelic and prefect Jurkovic expressed satisfaction with the previous cooperation and with the held meeting. “The armed forces will, within its capabilities, continue to assist the local community in carrying out engineering works”, Minister Vukelic said and expressed satisfaction that all the former military facilities that were given to local communities of Licko-senjska County had been put into operation. County Governor of Licko-senjska County thanked the MOD and the Government on objects that had been handed to cities and municipalities, and also expressed his confidence that the County would continue to successfully cooperate with the MOD. “The Croatian Armed Forces is an economic entity in Licko-senjska County and is welcome in all our cities and municipalities where it currently has its units”, prefect Jurkovic said, adding that through the Croatian Armed Forces they see the overall development of the County. Minister Vukelic concluded that the Croatian Armed Forces were not a burden, but a chance for the Croatian economy, stressing the readiness and stability of the Croatian Armed Forces. Using the occasion, the Minister announced the relocation of some CAF units in Otocac, and continuation of restructuring of military facilities in Udbina , as well as, the possibility of handing some of the non-perspective military facilities to local community.
While in Gospic, Minister Vukelic accompanied by his associates visited “Eugene Kvaternik” Barracks, in which 1st Motorized Battalion “Vukovi” of the Guard Motorized Brigade of the Army has been situated, and he was met with the situation in the barracks and the troops by Army Commander Lieutenant General Mladen Kruljac and Commander of the Guard Motorized Brigade Brigadier General Mladen Fuzul. The minister also visited the former military barracks “Kaniška”, which is now County 112 Center and Public institution “Velebit Nature Park “, stating it as a good example of the application of former military facilities to civilian purposes. At the end, the Minister also visited Bishop Ordinary and met the Bishop Monsignor Milo Bogovic.
