MOD State Secretary Simunovic meets KFOR Commander
State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Pjer Simunovic, accompanied by a delegation of the Ministry of Defence and Croatian Armed Forces, on the sidelines of the first Regional meeting of defence ministers in Pec, visited on Thursday, November 3, KFOR Headquarters in Kosovo and members of the Croatian contingent deployed in the KFOR.
MOD State Secretary Simunovic met with the KFOR Commander, Major General Erhard Drews in KFOR Headquarters in Pristina. In conversation, they exchanged views on the current situation in Kosovo, with an emphasis on the tensions in the north of the country and the measures taken by KFOR to stabilize the situation. Simunovic has reaffirmed the readiness of the Republic of Croatia to continue to contribute to security in Kosovo through its involvement in the KFOR mission led by NATO, as well as in EULEX judicial and police mission of the European Union. The State Secretary also stressed support for Kosovo to be fully integrated into the international community.
State Secretary Simunovic visited Bondsteel Camp in the vicinity of Urosevac where the Croatian contingent has been stationed, and met the deputy commander of Multinational Force East and with the camp commander, who presented the structure and tasks of the multinational battle groups in the East area of operations and organization of the camp and support that within this framework has been provided by the Croatian contingent. MOD State Secretary during a visit to the camp also met with members of the eighth Croatian contingent in KFOR, which presented the tasks they perform in the operation. Twenty members of the contingent led by the Commander Major Marijan Skorija, perform flight tasks by two helicopters Mi-171Sh, which strongly contributes to the effectiveness of the mission.
