NATO Crisis Management Exercise

Croatian Ministry of Defence from 19 to 26 October 2011 has been involved in the NATO crisis management exercise, called CMX11.

This is the fourth NATO Crisis Management Exercise in which Croatia participate, and the second time as a member of the Alliance. Coordinator of all activities for the preparation and implementation of CMX11 exercise in the Republic of Croatia is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

NATO Crisis Management Exercise is a simulation exercises conducted on the basis of fictional scenarios and consultations between NATO members and partner countries, and does not foresee any real military forces deployed in the field. The purpose of CMX11 is training procedures at the alliance’s strategic and political level with regard to crisis management. The exercise will be attended by civilian and military personnel at the NATO Headquarters and in the capitals of the participating countries.
The scenario for the CMX11 exercise is based on the concept of collective defence, and involves consultation among the Alliance members under Article 4, as well as the possible declaration of Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. In accordance with the scenario, partner countries Finland and Sweden were invited to participate, while the representatives of the United Nations, European Union, the Organization for Security and Cooperation and the International Committee of the Red Cross participate as observers.
