NCO of Support Command killed on “Eugen Kvaternik” military training area near Slunj

During the destruction of mine-explosive assets on the “Eugen Kvaternik” military training ground, near Slunj, today, June 29, at 13:30 hours, Sergeant 1st Class Vladimir Vincelj, NCO of the Support Command, was killed in an accident at work.

Investigation on all the details of the accident that occurred during the activity of the Supply Battalion of the Support Command (ZZP) is ongoing. This was the regular activity of the Supply Battalion conducted from April do December 2010 on a permanent site for the destruction of mine-explosive assets “Ostarijski Dolovi” on the “Eugen Kvaternik” military training ground. Decommissioned mine-explosive assets (UbS) have been destroyed in accordance with the Annual plan for destruction of UbS for 2010 and with the Standard Operational Procedure for the destruction of decommissioned UbS for 2010.

Officer Vincelj (37) was a member of the Croatian Armed Forces since 1998. On the duty of deminer he was from 1998 until 2004, and since 2004 he served as Commander of the UbS Maintenance Squad. He completed the training for deminer and for instructor of mine explosive assets in the Army Officer School “Fran Krsto Frankopan”, and training for the Squad Commander in the Army NCO School “Fran Krsto Frankopan”.

Representatives of Support Command visited family of killed Sergeant, who left wife and two children behind. Defence Minister Branko Vukelic and Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Josip Lucic sent condolence telegrams to family.
