Presentation of monographs on Guard brigades

On occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Croatian Armed Forces, of the Croatian Armed Forces Day and the Day of the Army, four monographs dedicated to 2nd Guard brigade, “Gromovi”, 4th Guard brigade “Pauci”, 7th Guard brigade, “Puma” and 9th Guard Brigade “Vukovi” were presented today, May 26, in the National and University Library in Zagreb.

The ceremony marking this important jubilee and the solemn promotion was attended by the Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, the envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zlatko Gareljic, by the Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Zeljka Antunovic, Defence Minister Davor Bozinovic, Minister of Family, Veterans’ Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity, Tomislav Ivic, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Drago Lovric, Vicar General of the Military Ordinary Monsignor Juraj Jezerinac, members of parliament, state secretaries, representatives of veterans’ organizations and numerous other guests, friends, commanders and members of the glorious brigades.

When addressing the audience at the National and University Library, Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said that it was about four books that talk about how we won in defending Croatia and in the imposed war, which record the truth and, as she said, “are precisely those powerful weapons in the battle that is still ongoing – the struggle against forgetting”.

Minister Davor Bozinovic stressed the importance of such projects, “this book will save a lot of details, little stones in the mosaic of events that were going on and about the truth. They are a reminder that tells the unwavering libertarian spirit of the Guards who were and remain our hope, pride and a role model, but they are also a reminder to younger generations on people who have put all they had for their Homeland, and were not looking for anything in return”.

Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Drago Lovric said in his speech that those books provide the truth and enable important events to be recorded, not only because of our past but, even more, for the future, while retired Gen. Josip Lucic, chief editor of the monographs and until recently Chief of General Staff, when summarizing stressed that today, when we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the armed forces, we can proudly say that they fully meet the goal for which they were created.

“Homeland War was the brightest period of Croatian history, these are words we have constantly repeate, and we must not forget them, and these books are a monument to one of the brightest generation of Croatian warriors”, said in his speech monograph reviewer, Ante Nazor, while the head of the edition Antun Mogus, noted that, after the first four books from the edition of monographs on the CAF in the Homeland War, remaining four would quickly follow, and they would be aimed at documenting the truth and keeping the memories of the Homeland War.
